Barcelona day 1

After a short nap and settling in, we went out to explore the city.

Our first stop was a better lick at the cathedral at Sadrago Familia.  We found the other facade which is more modern and also incomplete.  Although the whole cathedral is inspiring, I prefer the lyrical free-form Gaudi older facade.  It is FULL of delightful forms including a tree mounted high in the center with doves in it.  As someone said yesterday, his work is poetry in form.

We wanted to walk, but were quite tired. We found a DELIGHTFUL compromise in engaging Issac, a wonderful peddler and guide who took us for a bird's- eye visit to see some if Gaudi's architecture, the old city with its winding, narrow streets down to the sea.  It was a delightful way to see the city since we were able to go down so many of the charming streets.  We had dinner and were able to return through the park with Isaac's friend.  A great first day in Barcelona!

  1. Thank goodness for Isaac! Those bikes are the same ones they had in Ketchikan.... I agree, the Gaudi facade is more true. I loved seeing the wavy terraces on the apartment building. Keep up the great posts!

  2. What an amazing city! I've worked with someone from there on Skype for years and never really understood where they lived. YOu look like you are having an amazing time. It's great to see it as you experience it. Keep it up!
