A Day of Grace

Thursday October 26

Today's walk was through beautiful Galecian farm land and we ended up in the charming town of Portomarin for the night.  This will be a short blog entry because it is 11 PM here and I have to walk tomorrow.

My biggest joy of the day came just a few minutes ago when John called me back to let me know that Hildy opened her eyes and recognized him.  Let the healing begin!  She isn't able to speak or move much, but he knows she saw him.  This week she has been opening her eyes, but not able to focus on anything.  I am so glad he was there for her.  Our prayers are being answered - thank you all so much!  I am very much looking forward to being there.  We know it will be a long recovery and we're so glad that it has begun!

Here are some other highlights of the day:

Early morning "message tree" in the woods,

Rolling hills, walking and bicycling pilgrims ahead.
    Harvesting Kale

    Great gate and wall

Smiling pilgrims at the 100 km post (with our friend Hanne from Denmark)  Woohoo!!

Typical cafe and coffee break time.

Lunch with friends in Portomarin (after showers and laundry!)

   Portomarin Main Street

    Main square and church.

The town was washed our by flooding and the church and other buildings were moved stone by stone and re-erected on the hill above the river.  An amazing feat!

Today my angel card was 'grace' - I'm feeling graced by Hildy's continued healing, by the many wonderful experiences of this Camino, and the incredible community of support I feel.  More to come when I have more time.

  1. Glad to hear that Hildy continues to improve. She and you have been in our thoughts and prayers. And we really appreciate your pictures and narrative, especially how your Angel card relates to you at any particular time.

    Journey Well!!

  3. Praise God for healing and grace! I am so happy for Hildy and for you. What a milestone! The message tree was really cool. I was thinking last night - again - how wonderful it is that you're faithfully keeping this blog for all of us. It is such a lovely daily connection. I feel -almost- that you're right here in my kitchen discussing your day. xoxoxox
